Emily Beno Named Elementary Teacher of the Year

Her leadership and commitment to students shine

Zwink Elementary’s Emily Beno is not only a relationship driven educator, she is also the 2018 Klein ISD Elementary District Teacher of the Year.

“It’s definitely very humbling,” said Beno. “There are so many amazing teachers in Klein.”

Beno has served at Zwink for three years. During this time, she has stepped up as a leader by helping to implement new initiatives including Zebras with a Growth Mindset (ZWAG) where she worked closely with her colleagues and the school community to lead the charge of communicating what a growth mindset is and how it’s important to the students at Zwink.

“She truly exhibits the Profile of a Leader and is a Promise2Purpose Investor, and she lives the mantra that kids deserve it,” said Principal Katie Turner. “She always has an attitude of gratitude and doing whatever it takes to serve students.”

In her classroom, Beno sets high expectations for her students and holds them to it. She works tirelessly to build relationships with each one and personalizes their learning based on what they need. Her focus is to build forever learners every day, and she believes that every single student deserves the best education they can get from the best educators.

“I try to show up every day and give everything I have to my kids every single day,” she said.

“And that’s what I ask from them as well. I don’t ask them for perfection; I just ask that they give me the best of them every single day.”

She’s originally from the Chicago area but says that in Klein she feels like she is a part of the family. She says that the district is full of people who are doing what is best for kids. The Klein team is all working together to do what we need to do to serve our students.

“I truly believe that no one achieves anything alone,” she said. “I believe I am the teacher that I am today because of all the amazing teachers and educators that I’ve had the privilege to work with.”
