Simone Biles makes surprise visit to Benfer


It was an exciting day last Thursday for Benfer Bobcats as they received a surprise visit from former student and four-time Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles.

In conjunction with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s recent declaration of Nov. 27 as Simone Biles Day, students were treated to a visit from the most decorated American gymnast in history who spoke to students about setting and achieving goals.

“I really enjoyed all the teachers I had at Benfer Elementary,” said Biles. “I have so many memories. It’s just been so long since I’ve been back here so it’s kinda special.”

After visiting with students who also asked questions about how she spends her free time and which athlete she admires. She autographed the school’s record board in celebration of her still current record of 100 push-ups.

Biles is a native of Spring having attended Benfer Elementary through fifth grade. She is an inspiration to many as she continues to fulfill her purpose competing as an award-winning gymnast.
