Two Athletes Selected as Touchdown Club Finalists

D’Anthony Simms, Klein High School running back, and Isaiah Spiller, Klein Collins all purpose running back, were chosen as finalists to be recognized as the TouchDown Club of Houston, a chapter in the National Football Foundation, Player of the Year.
According to the Touchdown Club of Houston website, the club has honored the outstanding high school football players in Greater Houston since 1980. Player selections are made by a blue-ribbon panel of area high school coaches, and the coaching winners are selected by a blue-ribbon panel of area high school athletic directors.
Klein High Head Coach, Shane Hallmark, has been coaching Simms for four years and was watching him closely during his two years at Kleb Intermediate.
“I knew from the beginning that Simms had a strong, competitive nature that will serve him well in life after football,” Hallmark said. “He always puts the team before anything that he may accomplish individually.
Even after his nomination, Simms consistently held a good mindset and was self-reflective.
“I feel blessed and honored to be on the same stage with all of the other amazing athletes,” Simms said. “It was very humbling.”
Klein Collins High School Head Coach Adrian Mitchell said he could not be more proud of Spiller.
“Isaiah is extremely driven and motivated,” Mitchell said. “Regardless of his God-given ability, he has remained very humble and that’s why I believe his future’s so bright.”
Spiller credits his success to his greatest motivators—his mom and dad.
“My parents have inspired me to be the best when I felt the worst,” Spiller said. “They push me to be great and everything I do is for them, for my last name.”
Simms has intentions to play football in college and to major in criminal justice. He also hopes to extend his career to the NFL, but “realize[s] the importance of an education.”
Spiller is committed to Texas A&M and hopes to receive his degree and a shot at playing in the NFL during his time there.
Simms and Spiller are relationship driven, determined leaders who represent what it means to be model students and athletes in Klein ISD.
