Texas Council on Family-School Engagement Visits Klein ISD

Texas Council on Family-School Engagement Visits Klein ISD

The Texas Council on Family-School Engagement recently visited and learned how family engagement is one of the reasons Klein ISD is a top-tier district.

Klein ISD is one of the three inaugural districts on the council, along with Waco ISD and Laredo ISD. Each district also has parent representatives who provide their experience in the Family Engagement program.  Members from Texas Education Agency (TEA), Region 1, Region 4, Region 12, Region 16, and staff from the Texas Comprehensive center also serve on the council. The goal of the council is to provide feedback to the Texas Education Agency about educational priorities for family and student success. This input will be used for education service centers throughout the state to provide meaningful engagement opportunities for families and community stakeholders.

This was the first site visit in which the council was able to get a better view of the implementation and best practices of the Klein ISD family engagement. During their visit to Kaiser Elementary and Nitsch Elementary, they were able to hear from Kaiser Parent Liaison, Ana Alvarez, and Nitsch Parent Liaisons, Angelica Sanchez and Eugena Simon, about how they are empowering families in helping their children succeed in school.

“Having the Council visiting Klein is a great honor!” said Maria Ovalle, Program Coordinator for Family Engagement. “I was excited to share with them our P2P vision, and to showcase the fantastic ways in which staff and parents partner every day on behalf of students.  It is a great honor to be the voice for all the Klein ISD educators and families that support EVERY student from Promise2Purpose.”

This year, Klein ISD was named a Texas Education Agency (TEA) Model School District for Family Engagement. The work our dedicated Parent Liaisons do EVERY day contributes to this distinction and deserves to be showcased.

The visit could be wrapped up in one statement from Terry Stafford, council member from Region 16, “Klein ISD Family Engagement gives me hope for what can happen in Family Engagement in the State of Texas”.
