Klein Oak OAP Advances to Region!
Congratulations to Klein Oak Theatre as they advance to region UIL One Act Play competition! The contest will be held at Waco University High School in Waco, TX on Saturday, April 13th. Klein Oak is performing Children of A Lesser God, a play by Mark Medoff, which focuses on the conflicted professional and romantic relationship between Sarah Norman, a deaf former student, and her teacher, James Leeds. The play won a Tony Award in 1980 for Best Play. Lizzy Cooper and Andrew Kusman are the two leads, and as part of their roles, they have learned and become fluent in American Sign Language. Two other cast members, Luke Sexton and Timothy Thomas, have also learned ASL in conjunction with their roles. The Klein Oak Theatre directors are Eric Domuret, Brie Garza, and Darin Garrett.
This past Saturday, April 6th, in Bryan at Area competition, Klein Oak was awarded a unanimous first place from all three judges despite very strong competition from five other districts. Spring HS, performing These Shining Lives, and Hendrickson HS, performing Caucasian Chalk Circles, also advanced to Region. Individual awards for Klein Oak included Luke Sexton who was named All-Star cast. Lizzy Cooper and Andrew Kusman received Best Actress and Best Actor awards. Rachel Lynch was awarded Best Technician.
