In Session 6 of Holdsworth, we learned about three different types of listening: Internal, Focused, and Expansive.
Listening occupies ¼ of our waking hours- but are we truly using this skill, or neglecting it? You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time: MULTI-TASKING is a myth. This was eye-opening for me as I sometimes try to accomplish multiple things at a time while I am “listening”. This has changed my practice of listening this year. I now try to practice expansive listening throughout the school day.
Through the listening self-survey, I was able to see areas I could improve on my listening skills. Try the listening self-survey for yourself, and see your strengths and areas for improvement. I challenge you to make a listening goal for the 2019-2020 school year.
