Safety is and always will be a priority in Klein ISD. That’s why we were so excited to launch our Bus Buddies program for the first time this school year with the help of over 200 volunteers!
Bus Buddies is a partnership between Klein ISD and volunteers to provide assistance to elementary-aged students to ensure they get off the big yellow bus at the correct location. Let’s face it, after a fun-filled day of learning, our little ones can be too excited or exhausted to keep an eye out for their bus stop.
“It’s especially helpful to have someone during the first few days as kids familiarize themselves with the route and their specific stop,” Cathleen Bancroft, a lead driver, said. “The Bus Buddy program was a great way to support Transportation and ensure the safety of students.”
The program required one “Bus Buddy” per elementary school bus for the first three days of school. Many of our Bus Buddies were familiar faces from our very own Klein Family. Brandy Dean, who can be found in Klein ISD Nutrition and Food Services on a typical day, said that serving as a Bus Buddy was everything she thought it would be and more.
“Volunteering has always been an area dear to my heart, so I was excited to assist in getting our littles home safely,” she said. “My overall experience was wonderful, from seeing the children’s smiling faces when they arrived at their stops to asking and hearing how their days went. It was amazing.”
“Our volunteers did an amazing job supporting our bus drivers and assisting with our students,” he said. “This helped us ensure safe transportation and a timely arrival at secondary campuses. We are so grateful to everyone who participated and for Dr. McGown’s overwhelming support.”
We would like to thank everyone who helped make the first year of Bus Buddies a success. And a special thanks to Larry and Bobbie Drown of Campus Kids, LLC for graciously sponsoring the T-Shirts (they were a huge hit!). We couldn’t have done it without each of you!
