Klein ISD Hosts National Personalized Learning Conference

Klein ISD proudly hosted the National Academy for Personalized Learning with Education Elements and Google for Education Texas at the Klein Multipurpose Center on Tuesday.
The National Academy for PL is a one-day event for professional learning, designed for district leaders at all stages of their personalized learning exploration, and is a process that Klein ISD takes great pride in.
Klein ISD’s Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown participated in a panel that helped attendees learn strategies for embracing and developing innovative leadership in order to understand how innovation translates into change for classrooms.
“When I think about how personalized learning has impacted my leadership as an educator, it’s really about all the people who support student learning and how we personalize learning for them as well,” Dr. McGown said. “In Klein ISD, we want to know every student by name, strength, and need. I don’t think you can do that authentically or consistently without applying that same thinking to the adults in our system as well.”
Participants from across the country explored the foundations of the Google culture of innovation and how it ties to education, experienced a personalized learning classroom simulation, and heard from a Klein ISD district panel consisting of district leaders, teachers, and students discussing our process.
“We shared our journey of being a district that dabbled in personalized learning to a district that is fully seeking out reimagining our classrooms by making learning personally relevant for EVERY student,” Professional Learning Instructional Officer Monica Shallenberger said. “By sharing our story, we are able to help other districts calibrate where they are on their own path to personalized learning for their students.”
Klein ISD is proud to serve as a model for personalized learning, not only for our students but for teachers and staff as well. We hope every participant left the day-long professional development event feeling equipped to personalize learning and build a culture of innovation.
