Teaching and Learning Executive Director Dayna Hernandez is a homegrown testament to the tradition of excellence and innovation in Klein ISD. Having attended Theiss Elementary, Doerre Intermediate, and graduating from Klein High School in 1991, Dayna is a proud member of the Klein Family who has worked in the district for over 20 years.
“Klein ISD definitely provided me with so many wonderful experiences to be involved and successful in school so that I could exit with my purpose,” Hernandez said. “I am grateful to work in a district that focuses on ‘we, not me.'”
Dayna has made it her life’s work to harness her gifts of speech and relationship building. As an educator, she has wholeheartedly poured these gifts into her career. Before serving as a Teaching and Learning Executive Director who coaches and supports elementary educators across the district, Dayna began her career as a student teacher at Kuehnle, earning her first teaching position in 1996. She has also served as a district technology trainer, assistant principal at Theiss Elementary and Krimmel Intermediate schools, principal at Brill, and founding principal of Mahaffey Elementary.
Dayna is a positive, innovative, and transformative leader who focuses on students as the center of her work every day. She knows how beneficial personalized learning is for addressing the needs of the whole learner and works relentlessly to foster flexible learning environments, meaningfully integrate technology into instruction, and coach educators as they strive to provide the very best learning opportunities for our students.
The Klein Family also extends to her own family–Dayna is married to Bo Hernandez, Klein Oak’s Head Baseball Coach, and she is proud of the work her parents, Jerry and Beverly Zelonish, have accomplished in the Klein Leadership Coalition to advocate on behalf of Klein ISD. She also has two sons, Tony (Klein Oak graduate of 2012) and (Tyler Klein Oak graduate of 2017), plus her white labrador, Scout. Outside of work, Dayna is an outdoor enthusiast and faithfully serves at Champion Forest Baptist Church – North Klein.
