Eiland Elementary Receives $25,000 Grant for Interactive Playground

Eiland Elementary Receives $25,000 Grant for Interactive Playground

Our wonderful Klein ISD Education Foundation, community members, and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown climbed aboard the Celebration Express on December 4 to deliver big checks and even bigger smiles to grant recipients across the district. The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.

The Foundation presented Eiland Elementary with the Lead the Spark Grant, which is open to campus principals within Klein ISD to help support existing or new student programs. With a gracious sponsorship from Campus Kids, LLC, the elementary campus received a grant totaling $25,000 to create an interactive playground. Lu Playground will bring an interactive experience to the school gym that integrates physical education curriculum with core content learning. Eiland PE teachers will reimagine the traditional school gym through high-quality, cutting-edge technology. They will customize mindful exercises, game-like challenges that include every child—from the sports-minded to strategic and divergent thinkers. During the school year, parents will be invited to engage alongside their children.

“The different opportunities and exposure this will offer our students will go a long way to help them engage with reading, math, vocabulary, and different subjects in a different context,” Eiland Elementary principal David Menendez said. “We always say that we need to be really intentional about what we do here because that’s the only thing that we can control. We can’t control anything that happens once our kids leave our school. This is intentional.”

We are so grateful and proud to live and work in a district with a resource like the Klein ISD Education Foundation that supports our educators, who are continually challenging the norm and disrupting the status quo.

This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $56,650 that will bring education to life for our learners. From a book vending machine to a mock pharmacy, our fall 2019 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.
