Klein Forest High School Receives $6,400 Grant for Science Engagement Center

Klein Forest High School Receives $6,400 Grant for Science Engagement Center

Our wonderful Klein ISD Education Foundation, community members, and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown climbed aboard the Celebration Express on December 4 to deliver big checks and even bigger smiles to grant recipients across the district. The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.

Klein Forest High School received a grant sponsored by Team Reed Foundation for $6,400. This grant will bring science to life, literally. Klein Forest High School will pilot the first year of Live Science! Engagement Center (LSEC), a program that will foster a love for science for students in every grade. LSEC will work with students in Aquatic Science and Child Guidance. The LSEC will provide aquatic science students with a variety of living plants, reptiles, insects, and mammals to care for and maintain. Child guidance will have access to these plants and animals, as well as resources such as books, models, and equipment to create engaging science lessons for the next generation of scientists. This will form a partnership and instill a passion for wildlife, science, and leadership.

“This is just so exciting and we hope that eventually, this spreads across the Klein Forest family of schools,” Klein Forest Science Instructional Specialist Kristin Villareal said.

Klein Forest principal, Mr. Lance Alexander, expressed great gratitude to Team Reed Foundation and 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed. The professional golfer and philanthropist is married to Justine, a graduate of Klein Forest High School.

“Thank you, Team Reed Foundation, for taking care of Klein Forest,” he said.

We are so grateful and proud to live and work in a district with a resource like the Klein ISD Education Foundation that supports our educators, who are continually challenging the norm and disrupting the status quo.

This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $56,650 that will bring education to life for our learners. From a book vending machine to a mock pharmacy, our fall 2019 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.
