Klein ISD Superintendent Named AAUW Outstanding Woman in Education

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) North Harris County Branch named Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown as the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Women in Education Award.

AAUW is committed to advancing equity for women and girls and has a long legacy of honoring and celebrating outstanding women who make significant contributions in their professions, academic fields, and communities.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this prestigious recognition from AAUW, an exceptional organization of women I’ve long admired,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Their contributions have made a profound impact in our district and on our community by supporting numerous educational and philanthropic opportunities for our Klein Family.”

Dr. McGown is the proud Superintendent of Schools for Klein Independent School District in Klein, TX serving more than 54,000 students and over 7,000 district employees. As the first female Superintendent in Klein’s 81-year history, she is continuing the tradition of excellence and innovation in the district that she has served for her entire professional career.

As a dedicated leader in education, Dr. McGown was recognized as one of the top 40 professionals under 40 across all sectors in the greater Houston area by the Houston Business Journal in 2017 and a Houston BizWomen Headliner in Education in 2018. With her leadership, Klein ISD was also selected by HEB as one of five finalists for its prestigious HEB Excellence in Education Award and was the first and only school district to win the Houston Business Journal’s Innovation Award. Additionally, Dr. McGown earned Klein ISD’s first National Schools of Character Award as the inaugural principal of Zwink Elementary.

Additionally, Dr. McGown builds and strengthens relationships in the greater community by serving on the boards of Northwest Assistance Ministries, the Pearl Fincher Museum, the Klein Education Foundation, the Google for Education North America K-12 Advisory Board, and the Lone Star College Chancellor’s Advisory Council. As a lifelong learner who strives for continuous improvement in all facets of education, Dr. McGown is at the forefront of Klein ISD’s partnership for leadership development with the Holdsworth Center and is currently engaged in a strategic data project fellowship at Harvard University. She continually strives to speak life into Our Shared Vision and shares the good news of things happening in Klein ISD wherever she may be.

Dr. McGown will be honored at the AAUW North Harris County’s Outstanding Women Awards Luncheon in February 2020. The AAUW North Harris County Branch has been a long-time supporter of education in the community since its beginning over 40 years ago.
