Name That Book Winners Announced

Elementary and intermediate students battled it out over the weekend for a shot at being named “Name That Book” 2020 District Champions. This district-wide competition celebrates a love of reading because as we all know, readers are leaders.
In the end, it was the Krahn Page Turners and the Krimmel Knights who came out on top after a fully-booked day of fun and friendly competition!
The elementary competition was a close battle with an unprecedented overtime – 10 sudden death rounds! Shoutout to our second-place elementary team, the French VSCO Readers, and the
The Krimmel Knights cried tears of joy as they were handed their first-place trophy. Right on the Knights’ trail was our second-place team, the Kleb Bearcubs, and following closely was our third-place team from Hofius, In the Shadow of the Hawks.
Here’s how it works. (We hope you have the spine for it!)
Over the year, our bookworms read 25 books of various genres from cover to cover. At the competition, they sit in a team huddle and listen closely as a quote is read. Then, they work collaboratively for 30 allotted seconds in order to “NAME THAT BOOK.” Once the timer beeps, the team captain holds up their team’s chosen book title that they believe the quote came from.
We would like to extend a special thanks to our families for supporting our students’ love of reading; our librarians, teachers, and administrators for serving as trusted coaches throughout this process; Klein High School for hosting our competition; and the high school and early childhood librarians, members of Central Office, and the Teaching and Learning team for assisting with the day’s activities.
With this event, we celebrate the legacy of the dedicated and innovative librarians who founded Klein ISD’s Name That Book Program in 2013 at Eiland Elementary, Epps Island Elementary, and Nitsch Elementary. The program was expanded to intermediate campuses in 2019.
