Klein ISD Board Approves New Elementary Attendance Zones

Klein ISD Board Approves New Elementary Attendance Zones

At its February 10, 2020 meeting, the Klein ISD Board of Trustees approved the recommended changes to elementary attendance zones as presented by Associate Superintendent of Facilities and School Services Robert Robertson.

With the opening of Elementary 33 (newly named Fox Elementary) in Klein ISD, it was the appropriate time to study several elementary school attendance zones and consider balancing student enrollment, based on programming and facility capacity.

An initial meeting in the fall to gather input on preliminary attendance zone plans included district staff, families, and community members. In four community meetings held in October and November, the district presented several attendance zone options. Over 200 community members, families, and Klein employees attended these meetings, and the district used feedback to create additional attendance zone options for consideration.

The district presented a preliminary elementary zoning plan at the December 2019 Board meeting. An online feedback form was available for 30 calendar days for further community input following that meeting. The district made its final recommendation at the February 2020 Board meeting.

“After thoughtful consideration of all feedback, we presented the Board with an attendance zone option that balances the needs of the district and the community, while accounting for future growth, programming changes, and facility capacities,” Robertson said.

Here is additional information regarding the boundary changes in the new elementary attendance zones.

Families with elementary-age children living in rezoned areas will receive a letter in the upcoming weeks to explain the specific changes for their children.
