Klein ISD Named National District of Distinction

Klein ISD Named National District of Distinction

After being recently honored as the first and only school district to receive the Houston Business Journal’s Innovation Award, Klein ISD has been nationally recognized as a District of Distinction by District Administration magazine for our Innovation Challenges.

This achievement in Curriculum & Instruction celebrates our districtwide, hands-on instructional approach of hosting challenges that include Klein Water Warriors, Klein In Space, Operation Lifeline, and even our uniquely student-produced hackathon known as “Klein Hacks.”

Klein ISD is truly at the forefront of innovation in education by empowering students to own their learning and solve real-world problems – something District Administration thinks other districts across the nation can and should replicate.

“I’m so proud of this honor and the recognition that it brings to Klein’s long-standing tradition of excellence and innovation at the national level,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Our Klein Family is fueled by innovation, and our annual innovation challenges not only showcase students’ creative solutions to real-world problems, but they meaningfully engage our greater community in the learning process.”

This recognition is the product of a long-standing commitment to going above and beyond in all aspects of education, from utilizing and nurturing valuable business partnerships to encouraging thoughtful, student-led initiatives.

Our challenges are applauded for transforming learning into action, encouraging multi-grade level collaboration, and immersing students in the design thinking process.

“It was a great opportunity to use the things I learned in class and apply them to something real, rather than just problems on a test,” Klein High graduate Max Hall-Brown said. “For me, it was an opportunity to take my knowledge to the next level and find a way to innovate.”

DA’s annual Districts of Distinction Program honors home-grown innovations in K12 education – successful projects that were developed by visionary educators to meet the needs of their individual school districts and that have the potential to impact student success in communities nationwide.
