Zwink Elementary Recognized as State School of Character

Zwink Elementary Recognized as State School of Character

Zwink Elementary became one of only two elementary schools in Texas to earn the title of a 2020 State School of Character from Character.org this month.

This recognition is a testament to Zwink’s commitment to fostering rich character development in and throughout the learning environment.

“We are so proud of the hard work of every teacher, administrator, student, family member, and staff member at Zwink that made this recognition possible,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “This just proves what we’ve always known, that Klein ISD is a great place to call home.”

Zwink was previously designated a National School of Character in 2015. This year, Character.org required all current National Schools and Districts of Character (designated in 2015 or earlier) to go through the same process as newly applying schools. Being named a State School of Character means our Zebras are well on their way to re-certifying as a National School of Character!

“Zwink is so proud of this prestigious honor and the opportunity to showcase our staff, students, and parents who uphold and model our core values each day,” Zwink Elementary principal Stacey Vaglienty said.

It’s been proven that State Schools of Character reap many benefits in student achievement and school culture and climate. In fact, 88 percent of students in a School of Character feel safe in school, compared to the national average of 59 percent.

“This shows that the campus is not only continuing the great things that were in place in 2015, but also that they are willing to innovate and continue to improve to meet the needs of EVERY learner,” Klein ISD Executive Director for Teaching and Learning Katie Turner said.

This recognition gives everyone in the Zwink Family something to be proud of.

“I can truly say that I have noticed a positive impact on both of my daughters’ education,” proud Zwink parent Monzerratt Trevino said. “Teachers at Zwink take the time to build personal relationships with each one of their students. As my oldest daughter has moved to middle school, I am pleased to see that she carries her Zwink Zebra integrity and values with her.”

Way to go, Zwink Zebras!
