Klein Oak Black Culture Club Hosts Black History Celebration

As Black History month wraps up in Klein, the Klein Oak Black Culture Club hosted a black history program for the community.
Klein Oak Black Culture Club sponsor Adanna McElroy works with Panther tablets by day and sponsors the Black Culture Club by night. When the students first brought up the idea of a black history program, she challenged them.
“When they said they wanted to host a program, I challenged them to figure out what black culture truly means to them because if they didn’t know that, then they couldn’t engage others,” Klein Oak Black Culture Club sponsor Adanna McElroy said. “They did a lot of research and thinking in order to make this event possible and we’re so proud that Klein Oak and Klein ISD embrace it.”
Throughout the evening, eventgoers were given a glimpse into African American history and traditions through the eyes and performances of our students. The campus collaborated with The Blue Dynasty step team from Hildebrandt Intermediate and Zeta Beta Phi step team of Klein Forest High School to wow the audience.
“Not only does it make our team super proud that Klein Oak reached out and invited us to perform, but it also shows us that our hard work is being seen and recognized,” Zeta Beta Phi step team captain Mykah Mares said. “This goes to show that Klein is really one big family because we are always cheering each other on and helping each other out.”
Klein ISD Board of Trustees President Mr. Doug James served as the guest speaker to conclude the event.
“Since this is the last day of Black History Month, that doesn’t mean that this is a time to stop celebrating or sharing or learning,” he said. “The students sitting in our seats today are called to continue making history.”
We are so proud to be a diverse district that serves students and staff from all different walks of life and we are always happy to celebrate that!
