Update #10 – Klein ISD COVID-19

Dear Klein ISD Families and Community:

During the suspension of normal school operations, Klein ISD continues to support our families and community. We are also actively monitoring the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in conjunction with local and federal health authorities.

In this update, you’ll find additional information regarding:

  • Extended learning plans
  • Expanded WiFi coverage around schools
  • Free home Internet service from Comcast
  • Klein ISD COVID-19 Update #11 will be shared by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18

Extended learning plans

Klein ISD has been preparing a plan for long-term delivery of instruction and continues to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation. We will remain flexible as we continue to respond and adapt to ensure student learning.  Extended learning opportunities for the week of March 16-20 are already available to families on https://kleinisd.net/familynet.

Klein ISD expands FREE WiFi coverage to reach neighboring homes

Klein ISD has set up external-facing wireless access points to cover immediate areas around our neighborhood campuses to provide increased WiFi to our community.

By extending our existing broadcasting abilities, anyone in the Klein Family that needs to access the Internet can park near a campus and get connectivity while still observing social distancing initiatives. Some homes may also be able to access our WiFi networks inside their homes depending on how close the home is to a Klein ISD campus or facility.

Comcast offering 60 days of FREE home Internet service

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Comcast is offering two free months of Internet to families in need.

This service is being offered through an existing Comcast program known as Internet Essentials. Through the new promotion that started March 16, new Internet Essentials customers will be able to get basic internet (25 Mbps downloads and 3 Mbps uploads) for free. The service has no contract, no credit check, and no installation fee.

To qualify:

  • You are already eligible for a public assistance program such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, or SSI
  • You live in an area where Comcast is available
  • You have not subscribed to the service in the past 90 days
  • You do not have an outstanding debt to Comcast that is less than a year old

To apply, visit the Internet Essentials website. If approved, you’ll receive a welcome kit and internet equipment within 7-10 business days.

Please continue to monitor your email and visit the District website and social media channels for regular updates.
