Update #20 – Klein ISD COVID-19

Dear Klein ISD Families and Community:

Today, April 17, Governor Abbott announced that all Texas schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We are grateful for the efforts of Governor Abbott and our state and local leaders to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.

In this update, you’ll find additional information regarding:

At-Home Learning & Food Distribution continue for the remainder of 19-20 school year

We will continue to support our students and families with At-Home Learning and food distribution for the remainder of the 19-20 school year. New! At-Home Learning Family Portal for students in special programs

This site,, has been specially designed for our students and families who receive special services like special education, 504/Dyslexia, foster care, Advanced Academics or Multilingual. It is full of webinars and resources designed to help families support learning at home. 

Graduation Update for the Class of 2020

Unless prohibited by further developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, we have rescheduled the May 30 in-person graduation to August 1, 2020, at NRG Stadium. We will have an update early next week with additional details and information regarding graduation, prom, and other senior activities. Please continue to check the class of 2020 website for answers to previously asked questions and for updates.

Collection of personal belongings 

Students and staff will have an opportunity in the future to collect any personal belongings from Klein ISD campuses and facilities. We are working on plans to make this process seamless and safe, and we will communicate those plans to you as soon as possible.

COVID-19 Facebook Live Q&A

NOTE: This was recorded before the announcement of school closures. Superintendent Dr. McGown and district leaders shared details on the District’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic Thursday morning via Facebook Live. If you missed it, please click here to view the broadcast. During the live broadcast, 800 people joined us live and we received and answered nearly 500 questions.


Should you have specific questions about anything related to COVID-19 for Klein ISD, for the quickest response and instead of emailing individuals, please use the contact form located at This form is monitored frequently and responses are provided regularly from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays.

While district buildings are closed, Klein ISD emergency and essential personnel for this evolving situation continue to consult with local health authorities and to convene virtually and regularly in order to conduct a full and ongoing assessment of risks for students and staff. As always, the safety of our students, staff, and families remains a top priority, and we will act out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and well-being.
