Klein ISD Superintendent Named Distinguished Educator by Alma Mater

After recently being named an Outstanding Woman in Education by the North Harris County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown has now been recognized by the College of Education at Sam Houston State University, in cooperation with the SHSU Alumni Association, as a 2020 Distinguished Educator of the Year.

“She leads by example in passionately motivating others to transform public education for all learners,“ Klein ISD School Board Member Georgan Reitmeier said. “She shares her knowledge and passion with others all over the nation, and yet, we are most thankful in Klein ISD that our students are the ultimate beneficiaries of her brilliance and success.”

This prestigious award recognizes and honors alumni educators who have made significant contributions to the field of education. Distinguished Educators of the Year must be an SHSU College of Education alum and have demonstrated expertise and outstanding service in their classroom, school, district, or community.

As an advocate for public education and long-time supporter of Klein ISD, State Representative Sam Harless works with Dr. McGown and knows the profound impact that she has on the district and community.

“I can unequivocally tell you that Dr. McGown’s leadership sets the standard for public education that is not only awe‐inspiring but ensures that our students are well educated and are well‐rounded future leaders, “ Harless said. “She is a motivated caretaker of the students, the staff, the parents, and the community with a servant‐heart that drives the Klein Family in developing a culture of caring and family engagement in the educational career of all of its students.”

Dr. McGown received her Master’s and Doctorate in Education from SHSU.  She was recognized as a Distinguished Educator during a ceremony held on March 7.  Klein ISD school board members, district and campus leaders, and retired Klein ISD superintendent Dr. Jim Cain were in attendance to celebrate McGown.

“Sam Houston State University is known for its excellence in preparing educators to join the noble profession of teaching, and I’m honored and humbled to receive this award,” Dr. McGown said. “I am grateful for the outstanding learning experience I had at SHSU, and I am proud to serve as an educator and leader in Klein ISD.”
