Fine Arts Teachers Learn From Industry Experts During COVID-19

Our Klein ISD teachers are not only teaching virtually, they are taking part in the at-home learning as well!

Klein ISD Director of Fine Arts Joel Wren organized virtual seminars for our teachers to learn from nationally-recognized leaders from across the country in various fine arts disciplines.

“Basically, we wanted to make sure that Klein ISD is a part of whatever best practices are being developed on the fly during these unprecedented times,” Wren said. “We want our kiddos to benefit as much as possible, always.”

Our teachers were able to ask industry experts about the best way to teach the arts online and how they can continue to support our strong arts culture in Klein ISD.

“The conversation that I was fortunate to sit in was with Richard Saucedo, and we spoke about how to manage our expectations and choices when we finally get to return to the classroom,” Klein Oak Director of Band Todd Clearwater said. “It was unbelievably helpful to hear ideas from someone so respected in our area of expertise.”

In Klein ISD, we pride ourselves on being a NAMM Foundation Best Community for Music Education (for nine consecutive years, but who’s counting?), but that wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and passion of our teachers, students, and families.

“We are so incredibly appreciative of the time and expertise that Richard Saucedo, Dr. Frank Abrahams, and Dr. Lisa Burrell provided to our teachers,” Wren said. “They provided wonderful insights on how to address the diverse needs of our students during this pandemic while still prioritizing artistry and music-making.

Wren also invited teachers from surrounding districts to sit in on these incredibly beneficial seminars.
