Klein ISD Senior Scholar Spotlight – #5

We are so proud of our Klein ISD Class of 2020! Students at each of our five high schools are accomplishing amazing things and chasing their dreams. 

As we end the 2019-2020 school year, we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce our Klein Family to some of our high-achieving seniors who are not only graduating in the top 10 percent of their class but are also leaving behind a strong legacy! 

Klein High Senior Scholar Spotlight – Andy Zhou

Klein High senior Andy Zhou is a proud Bearkat graduate in the top 10 percent of the Klein High Class of 2020. 

During his time in Klein, he participated in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Varsity Speech and Debate. One of the highlights of his high school career was participating in an International Public Policy Forum debate competition with fellow Bearkats in which the team placed in the top 16 debate teams across the entire globe! 

“My time in Klein ISD has helped me develop into an individual who is passionate about learning and making an impact on the world,” he said. “My experiences have helped me understand the importance of community and that collaboration is key to surmounting challenges.” 

Andy also interned with JASON Learning and volunteered as a tutor for various organizations. 

Next fall, Andy will attend Duke University to major in electrical engineering.

Klein Forest Senior Scholar Spotlight – Alma Torres

Klein Forest senior Alma Torres is graduating in the top 10 percent of the Golden Eagle Class of 2020. 

“It’s been a treat,” she said of her time in Klein. 

When she wasn’t running miles on end in track and cross country, Alma served as President of the Academic Decathlon team, participated in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Chamber Orchestra, and Leadership High School with Lone Star College North Harris. 

Alma will attend Lone Star College-University Park in the fall as a member of the Honors College to pursue a degree in Psychology. 

Way to go, Alma! 

Klein Oak Senior Scholar Spotlight – Robert Cashman

Robert Cashman will attend the University of Texas at Austin next fall and pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. 

During his time in Klein, he participated in Region Orchestra, HOSA, and National Honor Society. He’s a proud Eagle Scout and even renovated Hassler Elementary’s butterfly garden as his Eagle Scout project. That’s the Klein Family spirit!

“My high school experience has truly set my soul on fire, and the memories made in Klein ISD will warm my heart for as long as I live,” he said. 

We are cheering you on, Robert! 

Klein Collins Senior Scholar Spotlight – Linh Duong

Linh Duong is graduating in the top 10 percent of the Tiger Class of 2020. She grew her academic and personal excellence through extracurricular activities, volunteering, and rigorous courses. 

She participated in Chamber Orchestra, Environmental Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and THREE National Honor Societies – NHS, Spanish National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. Additionally, she mentored at Kreinhop Elementary and volunteered with Kuehnle Elementary’s LEGO Camp and Barbara Bush Public Library. 

Next fall, Linh will attend Texas A&M University at College Station as a civil/environmental engineering major. 

Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!

Klein Cain Senior Scholar Spotlight – Amabel Letrung

Klein Cain senior Amabel Letrung is one of the history-making scholars in the inaugural Klein Cain Class of 2020. 

Amabel was a highly-involved, high-achieving student to say the least. She participated in Chamber Orchestra, Key Club, Asian American Club, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Color and Winter Guard, and Mu Alpha Theta. Additionally, she became a National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar with Honor, all while actively volunteering in the community. 

“I am grateful for all the opportunities that Klein ISD has given me,” she said. “The teachers, administrators, and staff members have always encouraged me to strive for the best in academics as well as leadership. I am happy to say that I have been able to discover and begin pursuing my passions during my time at Klein Cain.”

Next fall, Amabel will attend the University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in biochemistry – pre-med.
