Innovative Klein ISD Nursing Pathway Prepares Next-Gen Frontline Workers

Every year, our students graduate from Klein and go on to serve, protect, teach, defend, help, and heal.
We are proudly training the next generation of frontline healthcare workers who will be ready to enter the workforce and make a difference.
The Klein ISD Advanced Nursing Pathway is just one of the many programs in Klein ISD that ignite a passion for service in our students. This pathway allows students to not only begin taking college-level courses during their sophomore year of high school but also begin mastering hands-on skills that they will use as a practicing nurse in the healthcare field.
“Our students are given the opportunity to train in a state-of-the-art clinical nursing lab at Lone Star College Tomball with their exceptional faculty,” Advanced Nursing Pathway Coordinator Kristen Haggard said. “Our graduates are able to earn their Associate of Arts degree prior to their high school graduation and earn their Associate of Applied Science degree in Vocational Nursing just seven months after graduating from high school.”
To put that in perspective, this puts our Klein ISD students approximately two years ahead of their nursing peers. That’s not even the half of it – learn more about Klein ISD’s fast-track to a nursing career HERE.
“The incredible cost-savings and early employment opportunities make this program a win-win for the students and families and, of course, for all of the patients who are being cared for by these energetic and passionate young nurses.”
As COVID-19 unfolded, our future nurses had to make the switch to online clinicals and courses.
“I am very proud of the graduates and future graduates of the Advanced Nursing Pathway,” Kristen said. “Caring for others is a calling that not everyone is cut out for. Not once has any of the students in the pathway expressed concern or worry about being a nurse in these current conditions, but instead wished that they were already fully-trained and certified so that they could be helping more right now.”
The pandemic only inspired these students more to press on toward their future career.
“Being a nurse means a lot to me,” President of the 2020 Nursing Cohort Kwisha Patel said. “It means putting others before yourself even if the situation is dangerous. I think COVID-19 has really shed light on how hard nurses work and how selfless they are. Seeing the stories about nurses and doctors just inspired me and made me even more excited to be the next generation of frontline workers.”
Although they are students today, they are the heroes of tomorrow, and we could not be more proud to play a part in educating, growing, and nurturing them.
