Klein ISD Honored as one of Houston’s 20 Most Innovative Companies
For the second year in a row, Klein ISD has been recognized as one of the most innovative, pioneering companies in the greater Houston area by the Houston Business Journal.
Klein ISD is the only business to be honored twice for a Houston Business Journal Innovation Award and is the only school district ever to make the list.
This year, the Houston Business Journal honored Klein ISD for our innovative Advanced Nursing Pathway.
“The Advanced Nursing Pathway is truly an outstanding and innovative example of our Klein ISD promise to purpose shared vision in action,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “By reimagining and expanding our strategic partnerships to include Lone Star College-Tomball, we can increase pathways to ensure that every student exits with a purpose as they pursue their future in nursing.”
This award is the product of a tradition of excellence in education that is deeply rooted in innovation and service to our community, and we honor the students who have committed themselves to serve others through our Advanced Nursing Pathway. Klein ISD is proud to educate the future generation of frontline healthcare workers who will be ready to enter the workforce and make a difference.
“Being a nurse means a lot to me,” President of the 2020 Advanced Nursing Cohort Kwisha Patel said. “It means putting others before yourself even if the situation is dangerous. I think COVID-19 has shed light on how hard nurses work and how selfless they are. Seeing the stories about nurses and doctors inspired me and made me even more excited to be the next generation of frontline workers.”
This first-of-its-kind program, which has already graduated two cohorts of nurses, is in partnership with Lone Star College-Tomball and is designed for Klein ISD high school students interested in pursuing their passion for nursing and the medical field. This unique opportunity enables participants to earn an associate of arts degree while simultaneously earning their high school diploma.
“We are excited that students with interest in the medical field can begin this course of study during high school,” said Beth Gilleland, executive director for College and Career Pathways. “This program will allow students to pursue their interests and acquire certifications that they can utilize to gain experience and to earn money to assist with college studies.”
Klein ISD is being honored alongside businesses such as Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston Texans, Reliant Energy, and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Klein ISD will be featured in a special section of the Houston Business Journal’s September 25 weekly edition and celebrated at the Fast 100 and Innovation Awards event on September 17.
