Klein ISD Connects Virtually with Students During Klein Online Simulation
With a little over a week left before the start of the 2020-2021 school year, Klein ISD teachers and students connected virtually for a Klein Online trial run.
“I think there was a lot of anxiety in the building prior to starting the Klein Online Simulation today,” Blackshear Elementary Principal Meagan White said. “We’re just trouble-shooting issues and figuring out how to make the first day really great.”
During the simulation today, District leaders visited campuses across Klein ISD to see the simulation first hand.
“I am so proud of our teachers,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Getting to see them all in action today with our students was another example of how they continue to give their best to our kids and to Klein.”
On every campus, teachers and administration focused on finding a way to not only ensure a smooth transition into Klein Online but to use this opportunity to become a familiar face for their students.
“Klein Online Simulation Day gives students and their teachers an opportunity to go through and work out the bugs in the technology,” Wunderlich Intermediate Literacy Specialist Christina Daniels said. “It serves as a way for students to be able to meet their teachers and put a face to the person who is going to be helping them throughout the school year.”
New and seasoned teachers were all filled with anticipation as they welcomed students with a smile on-screen.
“I just finished my first Zoom with all of my children and they were excited – a little nervous – same as me!” Blackshear Kindergarten teacher Lavonne Davis said. “I’m already loving every minute of it.”
It is clear that there is passion radiating across the district as the start of school creeps closer and our students and teachers begin building relationships again.
“We have the best teachers here in Klein ISD and regardless of whether our kids will be on campus or online, they are going to have the best support system ever,” Klein High Associate Principal Charlene Davis said. “We are just going to continue to do what we’ve always been doing and that is being there for every student, no matter what they need.”
While there is no doubt that everyone in our community is readjusting and learning during this time, it is our teachers who have felt most grateful for a few kind words and a smile through technical difficulties.
“I am so thankful for those in our community who are willing to stand by us and support us,” Klein High World History AP teacher Brita Domino said. “It really feeds our souls and our spirits to be able to deliver the best that we know we can for our kids.”
Thank you to our students and families who opted in on Klein Online Simulation day to help our campuses craft an ideal learning environment that is available for every student.
