Klein ISD Students Attend Prestigious STEM Camp
Students from Klein ISD were chosen from across the state to receive an Exxon Mobil scholarship to attend unique virtual STEM workshops hosted by the Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity at Rice University this past summer.
The following students experienced a five-day online STEM Camp led by Rice University professors and experienced facilitators that builds problem-solving and communication skills:
Alana Gonzalez (Klein Oak High School), Noah Pervaiz (Klein Oak High School), Alexander Cooreman (Klein High School), Ryan Stam (Klein High School), and Vishesh Konduru (Klein High School).
Above: Klein High School student Ryan Stam (top right) presents his ‘heatsink’ engineering design, made of copper, aluminum foil, and nuts and bolts, to his fellow campers via Zoom during the Tapia Center’s virtual summer workshops.
Each camper was challenged to design their own heatsink, simulating the process through which heat is transferred away from the processor in a computer to keep the device from overheating.
We’re thankful for this awesome opportunity for our brilliant students and look forward to seeing how they implement the skills from this virtual STEM camp into their future studies.
