Klein ISD Board of Trustees Adopts Lowest Tax Rate in 10 Years

Klein ISD Board of Trustees Adopts Lowest Tax Rate in 10 Years

During their regular meeting on October 13, 2020, the Klein ISD Board of Trustees unanimously adopted the lowest tax rate in 10 years.

Residents of Klein ISD will see a $0.0227 decrease in their school tax rate when they receive their tax statements in November.

“Klein ISD has always been a model of fiscal responsibility,” Klein ISD Board President Doug James said. “We take extreme pride in the management of the funds entrusted to us by our taxpayers.”

The adopted 2020 tax rate was lowered to $1.3373 per $100 in valuation down from the 2019 adopted rate of $1.36 per $100 in valuation.

“During such a difficult time for many in our community, I especially commend our Board of Trustees for their outstanding leadership exemplified once again by adopting the lowest tax rate in Klein ISD in the last 10 years,” Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said.

Homestead taxes are frozen for our citizens with the over 65 or disabled persons exemptions unless the citizen is currently paying below their tax ceiling.

Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older or of the surviving spouse of such a person, if the surviving spouse was 55 years of age or older when the person died, may not be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65, regardless of changes in tax rate or property value.
