Athena Hayley Named Alumni of the Month for October

Athena Hayley was honored at the October Board of Trustees meeting as Klein ISD’s outstanding alumni of the month. Known as ‘Hayley’ to her friends and family, she is a proud Klein ISD alumni and has made strides to show she is deserving of the honor to be recognized this month

Hayley has recent roots in Los Angeles, California, but her story starts here at home in Klein ISD.  Hayley attended Nitsch Elementary, Klein Intermediate, and graduated from Klein Forest High School. She was involved in the Business Professionals of America, Asian Awareness club, African American Heritage Society, Lady Eschelon (step team), Spanish Club, Gospel Choir among several other student-led clubs, but it was school theatre that helped her to realize her strength in leadership.

Hayley auditioned for the school play but did not receive a role. Disappointed, she began to doubt her abilities, but her Theatre teacher, Mr. Cooper saw her potential. He gave her the opportunity to be involved in the production as the Co-Director. It was this assignment that led Hayley to seek other leadership roles in her life.

After high school Hayley moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Initially wanting to share her talents as an actress, Hayley began creating work for herself when she found it difficult to find roles that truly highlighted her unique skills and talents. Hayley wrote, produced, and starred in her first film, “I Was Her,” which addressed relevant and difficult topics including abuse, addiction, homelessness, and teen runaways.

Realizing challenging aspects of life existed beyond the silver screen, Hayley turned to providing services to individuals who encountered these situations daily, thus, Love My Neighbor Foundation was formed, an organization to help feed & clothe the Skid Row Homeless community. For nearly five years Hayley has dedicated much of her time, collecting and distributing food, clothing, shoes and toiletries to countless homeless men, women and children in Los Angeles.

Hayley is a woman who knows how challenging life can sometimes be and wants to inspire other young women, men, and children to achieve their dreams while being a beacon of light by giving back and paying it forward for the next generation.
