Klein ISD Earns Superior Financial Rating For 18th Consecutive Year

For the 18th year in a row, Klein ISD has earned a “superior” rating in the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.
The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system. The quality of a district’s financial management and reporting system is based on 15 indicators and Klein ISD received the highest rating on all indicators.
“We are again so very honored to be awarded a ‘superior’ rating in this year’s School FIRST rating system,” Klein ISD Chief Financial Officer Dan Schaefer said. “This is the culmination of the ongoing and diligent work Klein ISD puts into managing the funds we are entrusted with from the State and our taxpayers.”
Although a score of 60 indicates a passing mark, Klein ISD attained a score of 100 – the highest possible score. A report on the rating was given as part of a public hearing during the October Klein ISD Board of Trustees meeting.
“I’m so proud of our finance team and their commitment to strong fiscal management in our district,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “A ‘superior’ rating with a perfect score of 100 is a true honor and testament to the thoughtful use of district funds to ensure high-quality instruction and excellent learning outcomes for every student in our care.”
The School FIRST rating system was adopted during the 1999 Texas Legislative session and was implemented in 2003 for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. The intent was to expand the public education accountability system to the financial services area. Its primary goal is to achieve a quality performance when managing financial resources in Texas school districts.
