Advanced Academics Supports Families with a Virtual GT Summit

Over 100 families attended a virtual Gifted and Talented Summit where families had the opportunity to learn about preparing their kids for college, meeting the needs of a GT student, and what gifted services are available in Klein ISD classrooms.
“There were a number of compelling presentations, keeping the morning fast-paced and engaging,” GT Parent Stephen White said. From learning how to Explore Creativity and Curiosity at Home to Reading PSAT Score Reports, families were able to attend any of the over 20 breakout sessions through Zoom to further their knowledge about the different opportunities offered in Klein. The sessions were led by Klein ISD teachers and members of our nationally-recognized Advanced Academic team.
Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown welcomed families and spoke of the many accomplishments of our Advanced Academic program, including honoring the Instructional Officer of Advanced Academics Kathleen Plott, who was just recognized by the National Association of Gifted Children as the recipient of the Gifted Coordinator Award.
“Thanks to the work of our Advanced Academic team, Klein offers Innovative Programming for students with a foundation in authentic gifted curriculum. I am grateful for the tireless efforts of our GT Coalition composed of educators and parents who continuously improve services available to GT students,” Dr. McGown said. “It was amazing to see the overwhelming support from our GT families this weekend who attended the Summit and learned of ways to better support their child with their learning.
Klein is proud to celebrate a long tradition of offering advanced level coursework and challenging activities to our students. Academic Achievement is one of our top priorities in Klein which is why we continue to make gains in our Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit courses.
We are so grateful for the high-quality educators of advanced academics who challenge and prepare our students for success.
