$123,000 Raised for Classroom Grants at Klein ISD Education Foundation Golf Tournament

$123,000 Raised for Classroom Grants at Klein ISD Education Foundation Golf Tournament

The annual A.K. Buddy Brown Klein ISD Education Foundation Golf Classic and silent auction on November 17 raised $123,678 for grants that will be awarded to educators across Klein ISD that will benefit students’ learning experiences.

Over 170 golf enthusiasts, 45 community partners, and countless volunteers working behind the scenes made this event a success at the beautiful Gleannloch Pines Golf Club.

“The golf tournament is the backbone for what we do for the Foundation to support the teachers and kids in the district,” Klein ISD Education Foundation President Bill Lakin said. “It’s a tremendous feeling to see the community come out and support us as they have since it started in 2002. The tournament continues to grow, but what’s also nice about it is that the same people keep coming back, so it has that feeling of family and fellowship.”

To date, the golf tournament proceeds have exceeded $1.5 million, which is put directly back into classrooms to fund engaging educational experiences for our Klein ISD students and teachers.

“We are grateful to have support from so many people in our Klein community, ranging from business partners to volunteers to retired educators,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “It brings me joy to know that every dollar raised from the golf tournament is going right back to our teachers and their classrooms to bring their innovative ideas to life.”

Buddy Brown, chairman, and namesake of the golf tournament, has watched the event expand since its inaugural tournament in 2002 with just 93 golfers. He believes that the loyalty of EVERY community partner and sponsor is necessary for success.

“This is an opportunity for our teachers to improve education,” Brown said. “That’s what this is all about, and I appreciate the community, the people, and the businesses around here who have helped support us.”

The Team Reed Foundation has been involved with the golf tournament for four years and counting by donating direct monetary funds as well as “A Golf Experience with Patrick Reed” for the auction.

“This is very close to my heart and my wife’s heart considering Justine is a Klein Forest graduate,” Professional golfer and Klein ISD supporter Patrick Reed said. “Being back here and being in a place where Justine grew up and spent so much time has made me think about how important education is as a foundation for kids growing up. Seeing the positive and direct impact that teachers have on students made me realize that this is something we need to pay more attention to, and we want to help out with Klein and the teachers here in any way we can.”

For the first time, the Klein Education Foundation golf tournament held an online silent auction that opened up and secured over $10,000 before tournament day.

“In a year where there was uncertainty over sponsorship dollars, we decided to take our silent auction up a notch to have a greater reach for our auction items,” Klein Education Foundation Director Christy Spisak said. “Once the tournament concluded, we were happy to have over $31,000 in revenue from our auction and raffle.  We look forward to growing this every year going forward!”

We are so grateful to Klein ISD, all of our sponsors, players, and volunteers for making the 2020 A.K. “Buddy” Brown Klein ISD Education Foundation Golf Classic a huge success.
