Bernshausen Elementary Awarded $11,000 for Grant to Create Poetry and Art

Bernshausen Elementary Awarded $11,000 for Grant to Create Poetry and Art

The Klein ISD Education Foundation, community members, and Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown masked-up and climbed aboard the Celebration Express on December 10 and delivered large checks to grant recipients across the district.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.

Bernshausen Elementary will use its $11,100 grant sponsored by Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital to make a difference in the classroom.

The Museum of Becoming at Bernshausen Elementary, or MoBE for short, will allow Special Education (SPED), bilingual, and English-speaking students to create and curate poetry and sculpt STEAM pieces to exhibit in the MoBE.

Managed by Bernshausen MoBE Board of Directors (teacher-selected 5th-graders), MoBe will feature works curated by more than 850 students, librarians, art teachers, and Pearl Fincher Museum educational partners. New displays will be curated every 9-weeks based on the current Texas Bluebonnet reading.

Additionally, a “Mini MoBE” cart will roll into classrooms with supplies and activities for enrichment. Students will create hands-on sculpture-based artifacts through rigorous thinking, 3D printer challenges, and block printing. Students become docent leaders guiding guests through MoBE’s interactive exhibits.

“As we were getting to the end of our Grant give-a-ways, the excitement never waned! It was a day of fun and excitement. Watching all those students become advocates for their award-winning Teachers was special,” Foundation President Bill Lakin said.

We are so grateful and proud to live and work in a district with a resource like the Klein ISD Education Foundation that supports our educators, who are continually challenging the norm and disrupting the status quo.

This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $90,090 that will bring education to life for our learners. From a research and observation garden to WT2 translator earbuds, our Fall 2020 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.

Thank you so much to all our grant sponsors who made all this possible. Your giving contribution will help further the educational experience of every Klein ISD student.
