70 Scholastic Art Awards Earned by Klein ISD Students
Several Klein ISD students were recognized earlier this month for their accomplishment of being named a Scholastic Art Award Winner.
There were 21 Gold Key and 48 Silver Key Scholastic Art awards distributed across all 5 Klein ISD high schools and 5 intermediate schools.
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were established in 1923, and it is the largest recognition program and a source of scholarships for secondary students in the US.
“I believe in the importance of the Scholastic Art program,” said Melinda Jahn, Assistant Director of Fine Arts. “Student participation inspires the development of bold ideas and concepts and provides the motivation to creatively express those notions in a tangible medium. I witnessed that growth mindset and skill advancement year after year in my own visual arts classroom.”
According to the Harris County Department of Education, schools submit student art pieces to compete at the regional level. These entries are then judged by several panels of highly-qualified professionals who select either Gold Key, Silver Key, or Honorable Mention recipients. The Gold Key award recipients go on to compete at the national level.
