Frank Elementary Awarded $2,500 Grant to Share Student Voice

Students and staff at Frank Elementary have been awarded a $2,500 grant courtesy of State Farm local insurance agent, Martin Deutsch.
This grant will be put towards Frank Elementary’s student-led podcast series entitled “We Believe.” With this grant, staff will be able to purchase new tools and equipment with the goal of expanding and enriching their existing podcast program.
The “We Believe” podcast started last year as a way for students to share their own stories while navigating school and the pandemic. Frank students wrote about their personal experiences and were invited to read their stories on the podcast. It didn’t take long for the community and families to become fast fans.
Insurance Agent and grant sponsor Martin Deutsch’s daughter, Olivia, is a student of Frank teacher Ashley Huff. Olivia told her father about the success of the podcast, and he felt led to give back to the school accordingly.
“It is awesome to see this come alive for the students,” said Martin Deutsch, State Farm Sponsor. “I’m so blessed to have the benefit of being able to do this for the Klein community and use my free time as a business owner to invest back into our kids.”
With the podcast and donor assistance’s success, students and staff at Frank Elementary are looking forward to seeing this podcast hit other Klein schools. The goal for each Klein ISD elementary school to have its own tool for sharing the student’s voice is on the horizon.
“We had been talking about ways to get kids excited about sharing their writing and give them something to motivate them to write even more,” said Kim Althoff, 2nd-grade teacher. “We felt we should start from the bottom-up and that this opportunity would be a great way to begin.”
Thank you to Martin Deutsch and State Farm for your generous donation towards not just Frank Elementary but Klein ISD as a whole. We can’t wait to see what our students will do next.
