Hassler Fifth Grader Wins Districtwide Elementary Spelling Bee

Participants from all 32 Klein ISD elementary schools virtually gathered earlier this month to participate in the annual district-wide elementary spelling bee.
Fifth-grader Samuel Mathews of Hassler Elementary won the elementary spelling competition and will represent Klein ISD at the Scripps Regional Bee hosted by Houston Public Media on March 9th.
“We are so proud of Samuel. At a young age, he already demonstrates an incredible commitment to academic success and is willing to put in the hard work to achieve a very high level of excellence” said Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent. “We look forward to supporting Samual and watching him represent Klein ISD in the Regional Bee.”
The competition looked a little different this year, with students competing virtually at each of their home campuses.
“We are incredibly proud of Samuel Mathews for his performance today on the online spelling test,” said Lisa Robinson, English Language Arts Instructional Officer. “Samuel has exemplified resilience and determination throughout the entire process, and even though this was not our ‘standard’ bee, he did not let that deter him from making the best of the situation.”
Congratulations to Samuel Mathews! Good luck at the next level of competition as you represent Klein ISD.
