Klein ISD Nutrition and Food Services Department Receives Superintendent Initiative Award

The Klein ISD Nutrition & Food Services Department has been named the recipient of the esteemed Superintendent’s Initiative Award. The entire Nutrition & Food Services team is more than deserving of this award for the hard work they’ve selflessly provided while taking care of students and families during this difficult time.

“I’m so grateful to the amazing Nutrition and Food Services Team for all of their hard work to take good care of our students and families during this very difficult year,” said Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent. “This truly is a team of remarkable people who constantly go above and beyond to serve the needs of our entire Klein community.”

A year ago the Nutrition & Food Services team was one of the first to respond to the needs of students and families within Klein ISD by rounding up food from kitchens across the district, putting it together in to-go kits, and getting them safely into the hands of families in need.

The Nutrition and Food Services team have achieved this by providing meals through the Klein2Go program. Every child 18 and under has access to nutritious meal kits at no cost to families or the district, thanks to a waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture.

“We felt it was important to go above and beyond for our community because the need was greater than we’ve ever seen,” said Doug Massey, Nutrition & Food Services Director. “I am so proud of this team and how they have rallied together to meet the needs of our students and families.”

Last year was the first time in Klein ISD history where the Nutrition & Food Services team served a meal curbside, and today the team has served over 2.7 million meals. The team has risen to every challenge given to them this year and has done it with amazing grace throughout the whole process.

Congratulations to the entire Klein ISD Nutrition & Food Services team on receiving this incredible award. You are most deserving and appreciated for your service to our wonderful Klein Community.
