8 Klein Teams Advance to DI Global Finals

Over 600 teams from the 17 Texas DI Regions competed in Lone Star Finals. Every region sent their top placed team as well as any teams who earned a 180 or higher on their central challenge from 2nd through 5th place.
Throughout the month of March, Texas Destination Imagination teams planned, created, and submitted their team and instant challenges for the Lone Star Finals which was held as virtual competition. Klein ISD had 33 teams representing the North Harris Community Problem Solving Organization. Every region faced even more unique challenges and fresh problems to solve!
On April 10th, Lone Star Finals hosted their Virtual Awards Ceremony and Klein ISD’s Advanced Academics is excited to announce that EIGHT teams have advanced to the Destination Imagination’s Global Finals 2021.
Although DI wanted Global Finals to be in person, this will be the second year that the tournament will be a virtual competition! To continue in the Spirit of DI, teams competing in Global Finals will be evaluated by appraisers from around the world. As a new element, teams will participate in a Fast Flex Challenge that is “based on the themes of this season’s Team Challenges. Each team’s Fast Flex Challenge solution will receive a score and will contribute to the team’s overall score for ranking. They will need to flex their creative muscles and solve the Challenge in two weeks or less.” The Fast Flex Challenge will replace the traditional Instant Challenge which has focused on either task-based, performance-based, or combination of the two.
As part of DI’s update in regards to Global Finals, they shared, “Creativity, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving [are] three of the most sought-after skills in the workplace. But with the pandemic, newly emerging skills such as active learning, resilience, stress tolerance, flexibility and technology use are also topping the list.”
Congratulations and good luck to the following teams as they compete in Destination Imagination’s Global Finals 2021 which will be held throughout the month of June!
