Klein ISD Teacher Recognized as 2021 U.S. Presidential Distinguished Educator

Klein High School Advanced Nursing Pathway Coordinator and HOSA advisor, Kristen Haggard can add a new award to her long list of accolades.

This outstanding educator has been recognized as a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar Program Distinguished Educator. Haggard was nominated for this honor by her student and U.S. Presidential Scholar, Sneha Shenoy.

“I am always so happy to see Ms. Haggard spearheading such incredible learning opportunities for our students,” said Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent. “She is by far one of the most dedicated and brilliant teachers I’ve ever met, a truly invaluable member of our Klein Family.”

Haggard is a beloved staple in the Klein High community and is always innovative in helping her students reach their full potential. Her dedication and fierce advocacy for her students don’t go unnoticed as she enriches the lives of everyone she comes in contact with.

“I am completely overwhelmed and honored to receive this incredible honor,” said Haggard. “I am always inspired by my amazing daughter Hayley Haggard, a Klein ISD graduate. Larry Whitehead, Jessica Haddox, and Brandon Baker — former and current Klein High School principals — are the amazing leaders who have taught me everything I know about education and the opportunity to build relationships outside the walls of Klein High School through the CTE organization, HOSA, has made all the difference in propelling my teaching career to the next level.”

Klein High Principal Brandon Baker expressed his gratitude to Ms. Haggard for her continued service to his campus’ community.

“Ms. Haggard is so deserving of this recognition. She is a difference-maker in education. She capitalizes on every opportunity to shape the lives of our students here at Klein High School,” said Baker.

Haggard was thrilled to learn that her own student, Sneha Shenoy was selected to be a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar and shared her elation of this news first-hand.

“For me, teaching students like our Presidential Scholar Sneha Shenoy has been an absolute joy and honor. She is the most brilliant, diligent, caring, and focused student I have encountered,” said Haggard. “Every day, my students teach me something new and different. I realized that all you have to do is be open to learn from these kids, and you will be so surprised.”

Congratulations, Ms. Haggard! Your Klein Community is grateful for you and appreciates all that you have done for Klein ISD, especially our Bearkats!
