Klein ISD Proposes Lowest Tax Rate in 11 Years

The Klein ISD Board of Trustees proposed a new tax rate of $1.30 at the September Board of Trustees meeting. If approved at the October Board meeting, this new tax rate will be the lowest in 11 years!
“We are so pleased that our Board of Trustees proposed the lowest tax rate in 11 years,” said Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent. “I am grateful for the partnership between our Board of Trustees and district leadership in maintaining our tradition of excellence in meeting the needs of all of our students and our high level of financial integrity while focusing on cost-saving measures for our taxpayers.”
Klein ISD Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Dan Schaefer, said he is pleased with the proposal of this historically low tax rate.
“We are able to offer this proposed tax rate reduction due to the District’s continued sound financial management,” said Schaefer. “This reduction of approximately 2.8% will certainly help our taxpayers.”
Homestead taxes are frozen for citizens with the over 65 or disabled persons exemptions unless the citizen is currently paying below their tax ceiling.
Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older or of the surviving spouse of such a person, if the surviving spouse was 55 years of age or older when the person died, may not be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65, regardless of changes in tax rate or property value.
