Financial Aid Application Requirement for Class of 2022
According to Texas OnCourse, billions of financial aid dollars go unclaimed every year. In Texas, students miss out on roughly $300 million in grants (free money) each year by simply not enrolling in college.
Texas’ new graduation requirement gives students an extra push to get these funds and pursue education or training after high school.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens October 1, 2021, and it is now a requirement for seniors.
Educators and organizations across Texas have put a great deal of thought and planning into the new financial aid application graduation requirement for the class of 2022. Texas OnCourse has partnered with the TEA to develop a new site that ensures every educator, student, and parent or guardian has the information they need for students to submit their financial aid forms.
The site provides information and easy-to-use toolkits created for:
In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in Grade 12 during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:
- complete and submit a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA);
- complete and submit (as eligible) a Texas application for state financial aid (TASFA); or
- submit a signed opt-out form
