Superintendent’s Spotlight: Bus Drivers Safely Transporting Our Most Precious Cargo!

Throughout the school year, Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown spotlights the incredible members of our Klein Family who play a vital role in the everyday success of our school district. From the folks who provide healthy meals for our kids to the behind-the-scenes team-players in maintenance to our outstanding Klein ISD Police Department, there are countless dedicated folks working hard for our kids and community in Klein ISD!

You would most likely catch today’s Superintendent’s Spotlight stars driving down a street in your neighborhood. Our Klein ISD Bus Drivers drive a total of 3.1 million miles each year and transport approximately 26,000 students a day. They are dedicated to getting our kids safely to and from school, all while caring for a bus filled with children.

During National Bus Safety Week, Dr. McGown was able to spend time with our Transportation team and even dipped her toes into the life of a Klein ISD bus driver by driving a bus. Well, a bus simulator, that is!

“Our bus drivers receive top-notch training and support so that they can accomplish one of the most important jobs in our school district–safely transporting our most precious cargo, our kids, to and from school each day,” said Dr. McGown. “They are such dedicated members of our Klein Family, serving our district and community with such precision and care.”

Klein ISD is the only school district in Texas to have a bus simulator for training. This means that our bus drivers, new and seasoned, receive excellent and regular opportunities for on-the-job training. Our bus simulator is able to create any type of scenario in a controlled and safe environment so that our drivers are better equipped to handle any situation that might come their way in real life.

Transportation Bus Simulation

“We are so fortunate to have this bus simulator in our school district,” said John Fergerson, Klein ISD Director of Transportation. “Our top priority in Klein ISD is the safety of our students, and this useful tool will help us ensure that we are doing all we can to make their journey to and from school a safe one.”

Our bus drivers are trained to handle everything from increased noise levels to dangerous weather conditions. During Dr. McGown’s simulation, a virtual dog even popped out onto the street randomly (which she safely avoided hitting, by the way!)!

Our Klein Family is truly grateful for all of our devoted, talented, and student-focused bus drivers. Klein ISD bus drivers, thank you for all you do every single day for our students and community!
