Two Klein ISD Marching Bands Advance to State Marching Competition

Two Klein ISD Marching Bands Advance to State Marching Competition

Marching bands from Klein Oak and Klein Cain are preparing to compete in the 2021 UIL State Marching Championship Monday, November 8, 2021, after qualifying at the Area competition last Saturday.

Marching Bands from Klein High and Klein Collins also placed at the Area UIL completion, but both just fell short of the State cutoff.

This is the first time in school history that Klein Oak and Klein Cain will advance to the state level of the marching championship!

“It is extremely humbling to have been selected to represent the Klein ISD Community and Klein Cain High School at the 2021 UIL 6A Marching Band State Championship Contest,” said David McGrath, Klein Cain Band Director. “It is an incredible honor, and we are so very proud of our hard-working students!”

Both marching bands performed and wowed judges in preliminaries at the UIL Area competition last Saturday. After much applause and anticipation in the stadium, Klein Oak and Klein Cain moved on to the next round of competition and will perform at State in San Antonio, TX on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Alamodome.

This achievement is monumental as Klein ISD hasn’t had a school represented at the UIL State Championship in 15 years, and it has been 25 years since two Klein Schools advanced in the same year!

In response to this success, Klein Oak Band Director Todd Clearwater described the excitement he felt as his students waited for results at the Area competition.

“It was rewarding to watch the kids as they got closer to announcing the third-place result at our first competition. It was as if they were recognizing their hard work was paying off and they were worthy of the recognition,” said Clearwater. “From that moment forward, they have believed in themselves more. I can’t wait to experience the State contest with them.”

Congratulations to both Klein Oak and Klein Cain Marching Bands for your resounding successes this season! Your #KleinFamily is cheering you on as you compete at State next week!
