Klein ISD Celebrates 50th Annual GermanFest

Last Friday, members of our Klein Family gathered at Klein High School for the 50th Annual Klein ISD Germanfest. It was a night full of community and moving performances.
The majority of the first families to settle the Klein area, some from as far back as 175 years ago, were of German descent—a fact that is reflected by the homage paid to these families through many of our schools’ names.
“It is an honor and privilege to gather together and celebrate the wonderful founding families of our beloved Klein Community,” said Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent. “In Klein ISD, we honor our rich traditions and heritage, and the 50th Annual Germanfest was an important moment to bring our community together to recognize the important contributions, both past and present, of our founding families.”
A traditional German dinner prepared by the Klein ISD Nutrition & Food Services left guests satisfied and looking forward to the rest of the evening’s festivities.
Special performances from the Klein High Treble Choir and Fox Elementary’s student Choir wowed audiences and warmed hearts. Following the musical performances, members of the Klein ISD founding families were recognized on the football field at Klein Memorial Stadium, complete with a special flyover by a Coast Guard helicopter.
“It’s so great to be able to host the annual Germanfest and to reconnect with many of the founding families that first called this area home,” said Steve Baird, Klein Historical Foundation Director. “To see the faces of these families, young and old, light up as they hear the German music, taste the German Food and see friends they haven’t seen all year, makes all the hard work worth it.”
Klein ISD is committed to celebrating our rich culture as we honor the families that established the foundation of what is now a community committed to ensuring that every student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose.
