Klein ISD Fine Arts Holds Theatre Renaissance Festival
Students from Klein ISD Intermediate Schools wowed audiences during a Theatre Renaissance festival last Friday. It was a beautiful afternoon of monologues, one-act plays, duets, and small group performances brought by our talented Klein ISD Fine Arts students.
Although the students enjoyed getting out of school for the day and into the crisp autumn sunshine, the festival was also an opportunity for performers to brush up on their skills and receive instant feedback and critique from Klein ISD high school theater students.
“The festival was a great experience for both actors and audience. Seeing all the nervous energy before a performance, and then the glee of the students who were able to have their hard work pay off was rewarding,” said Brittney Mears, Doerre Theater Arts Teacher. “It was wonderful to see parents encouraging their children and supporting the Theater Department. It was a wonderful day, and I am already looking forward to next year.”
Usually held at the Texas Renaissance Festival, the Fine Arts Department pivoted this year as the festival grounds were unavailable. Klein ISD Assistant Director of Fine Arts Carole Mason had the idea to use Burrough’s Park and its multiple pavilions as an alternative.
“I was so proud of the courage our students showed to stand up in front of a crowd and give such great monologues, scenes, and one-act plays. This was an awesome opportunity for students to perform in an outdoor setting and receive feedback from high school theatre students. It was so much fun to watch high school students encouraging and coaching the intermediate students. What a glorious day!”
Families and friends thoroughly enjoyed the performances as smiles adorned each face in the audience. While educational and a way to expand and celebrate the arts in Klein ISD, this event was also a welcome break from the monotony.
Congratulations to every student performer and a resounding “thank you” to all who made this wonderful day for our students possible.
