Mahaffey Scotties Make Strides with Oil & Gas

This month, third-grade students at Mahaffey Elementary experienced a rare and insightful treat as special guests from ExxonMobil visited their classes. These special guests scientists were excited to introduce Mahaffey learners to the world of Oil and Gas.
The afternoon started with a brief introduction to the industry from the guest scientists. Students eagerly listened as they learned about drilling, energy plants, and more. Following a question and answer session, Mahaffey Scotties were split into three teams and were able to play fun and engaging games in the vein of STEM and Oil & Gas.
“This was such a great event and an amazing opportunity to come over and teach some of the students a little bit about the energy industry,” said Tara Gray, Wells Engineer at ExxonMobil. “We were able to get them thinking about where oil & gas comes from, how it gets to their house, and the different products created from oil & gas. In addition, it was rewarding to see the student’s reactions to learning just how much of their life is impacted by our industry.”
Mahaffey Principal Holly Mason was overjoyed that the guest scientists took the time out of their busy schedules to visit and introduce her students to this booming industry.
“I think oil & gas is so prevalent in our society but I also love the community connection that ExxonMobil has brought to us,” said Holly Mason, Mahaffey Principal. “We know that Mahaffey loves family engagement and community engagement and this was another way to expand business partnerships and bring in that real world connection for our students.”
What a fantastic time of learning and fun to be had by our enthusiastic students! Thank you to ExxonMobil for partnering in Klein ISD by sharing your talent and passion with our wonderful students.
