Klein Intermediate Awarded $15,000 for ‘Lead the Spark’ Presentation Stations at KI Grant

Klein Intermediate Awarded $15,000 for ‘Lead the Spark’ Presentation Stations at KI Grant

Klein Intermediate School received a generous $15,000 ‘Lead the Spark’ grant which will provide students with standing desks to serve as ‘Presentation Stations’ in ELA classrooms. This program is sure to be instrumental in helping our students find their voice and make the most of their learning process.

During a surprise visit by the Klein ISD Education Foundation Celebration Express, the schools were awarded the grant by foundation directors, community members, and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown. School staff were overjoyed as dozens of foundation supporters climbed out of their school bus and delivered large checks to grant recipients.

This grant allows Klein Intermediate to purchase standing desks for the purpose of creating “Presentation Stations” in English Language Arts and Reading classrooms.  Several standing desks will be housed in each ELAR classroom at each grade level and will be available to all students for the purpose of using oral academic language to demonstrate their learning. Students can use their own devices to record videos to orally share published writing pieces, conduct book reports, orally present projects, practice their reading fluency, and more. All students would be selected to participate and encouraged to use their academic language while recording their videos via online platforms like Flip Grid, Read and Write for Google, or Schoology, as part of their regular ELA curriculum.

Including the “Presentation Stations” in the everyday classroom environment sets the precedent that oration and presentation is an integral part of the learning process and helps students develop their use of academic language in core areas.

”I am thrilled to be part of providing this ‘Presentation Station’ Grant to the Language Arts Department at Klein Intermediate. The speaking voice is one of the most important voices in our lives,” said Bill Lakin, Klein Education Foundation President. “This grant will allow the students of KI the opportunity to use their various ‘VOICES’ in the appropriate context of their lives moving forward. In our world, where the speaking landscape changes many times daily, the appropriate speaking voice is critical. Congratulations to Klein Intermediate for looking forward on behalf of their students now and in the future.”

This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $69,469 to bring education to life for our learners. From a 2D-3D Visual Art field day event to curated literacy trails, our Fall 2021 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.

Thank you so much to all our grant sponsors who made all this possible. Your giving contribution will help further the educational experience of every Klein ISD student.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.
