Klein Oak High School Awarded $15,000 ‘Lead the Spark’ Science Grant

Klein Oak High School Awarded $15,000 ‘Lead the Spark’ Science Grant

Klein Oak HIgh School received a generous $15,000 grant which will enhance learning in its science classrooms in a mighty way. The Lead the Spark grant ‘Every Child Deserves a Front Row Seat’ is at the forefront of innovation and technology.

During a surprise visit by the Klein ISD Education Foundation Celebration Express, the schools were awarded the grant by foundation directors, community members, and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown. School staff were overjoyed as dozens of foundation supporters climbed out of their school bus and delivered large checks to grant recipients.

To address the learning gaps and needs created by the pandemic and the abstract nature of upper-level sciences, this grant will allow for the purchase of Boxlight interactive whiteboard panels which will provide students a more engaging and interactive science classroom. EVERY student on campus deserves a front row seat!

Klein Oak High serves over 3,300 students, each taking at least three years of science, with many students electing to take four. Students in classrooms with the Boxlights will have an opportunity to “step inside” cells or “see” the interactions of atoms with a clarity and resolution only the Boxlights interactive panels provide.

The Boxlight interactive panels provide numerous tools to help students master essential content standards and science process skills such as data and graph interpretation. The ability to see, hear, and interact with lessons will spark curiosity and increase engagement leading to better learning outcomes as well as give students real world experiences and tools they will use in college and in future careers.

“This ‘Boxlight’ Grant will allow the students at Klein Oak the opportunity to use all their senses in regards to immersing themselves in their Sciences classes,” said Bill Lakin, Klein Education Foundation President. “In terms of ‘setting students up for success’, what could be better? The students at Klein Oak will have a true concept of what it’s like to understand their scientific coursework.”

This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $69,469 to bring education to life for our learners. From a 2D-3D Visual Art field day event to curated literacy trails, our Fall 2021 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.

Thank you so much to all our grant sponsors who made all this possible. Your giving contribution will help further the educational experience of every Klein ISD student.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.
