Eiland, Ehrhardt, Mueller, and Northampton Awarded $12,219 for Trails of Tales Grant
Eiland Elementary, Ehrhardt Elementary, Mueller Elementary, and Northampton Elementary received a generous $12,219 grant to help strengthen literacy by creating curated experiences tailored to fit our student’s specific learning needs.
During a surprise visit by the Klein ISD Education Foundation Celebration Express, the schools were awarded the grant by foundation directors, community members, and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown. School staff were overjoyed as dozens of foundation supporters climbed out of their school bus and delivered large checks to grant recipients.
The Trails of Tales grant seeks to strengthen the literacy communities of these elementary campuses by providing experiences intentionally curated and developed by certified librarians that allow young learners, their classes, and their families to interact with literature in new and innovative ways.
StoryWalk® is a trademarked name developed by a librarian to integrate literacy, movement, and nature by placing entire books, page by page, on placards spaced out for an interactive experience outside. What makes Trails of Tales unique for our Klein community is that our school librarians will select the stories and the locations where they will be installed. For this project, the books that have been selected support reading and character building standards.
Literacy communities that truly encompass the whole campus thrive when reading experiences involve both emergent and fluent readers. This allows reading instruction to pivot from formal classroom instruction to experiences that directly support learning standards in informal settings and creative interactions.
“We are so excited to award this innovative and unique grant that will impact students across multiple campuses in Klein ISD,” said Christy Spisak, Klein Education Foundation Director.
This fall, the Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $69,469 to bring education to life for our learners. From a 2D-3D Visual Art field day event to curated literacy trails, our Fall 2021 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.
Thank you so much to all our grant sponsors who made all this possible. Your giving contribution will help further the educational experience of every Klein ISD student.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.
