Teacher Feature – Crystal Manahan

Walking into 5th-grade teacher Ms. Crystal Manahan’s room at Kreinhop Elementary, one thing is abundantly clear—Ms. Manahan is a huge cheerleader for her students.
The seven-year teaching veteran came from a long line of educators, so it was a natural occurrence for her.
“What truly sparked my interest in teaching was the time I spent as a student orientation leader in college,” Ms. Manahan said. “I realized that I enjoyed making an impact on people and loved imparting my knowledge to help others achieve their goals.”
This year, her favorite classroom activity was taking a voyage on a pirate ship to go sailing for context clues.
“We all boarded our ‘boat’ and sailed through the perilous seas calling on our fellow students to rescue us by correctly answering context clue questions,” Ms. Manahan said. “There is always a lot of cheering and encouraging others.”
Ms. Manahan’s desire for compassion and hope guides her students both in class and out.
“In-between all the grades, there is a unique, wonderful person who needs encouragement, a warm hug, a quiet ear, or someone to simply sit beside them while they drink a Capri Sun by themself,” Ms. Manahan said. “Hearing my former students tell me they’re still using strategies I taught them or how they built a love of reading in my class makes it all worth it.”
When not impacting the lives of her 5th grade ELA students, Ms. Manahan loves being a mom and wife, and she loves to read and write.
We are truly grateful for devoted and passionate teachers like Ms. Manahan in our #KleinFamily!
