9 Klein ISD Students Named as National Merit Finalists

Nine Klein ISD high school students have been awarded as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. These high-achieving students will go on to compete in the next round of competition with students across the nation.
Only about 3 percent of the roughly 1.5 million nationwide entrants qualify for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. In September, these high scorers are notified through their high school that they have qualified as either a Commended Student or Semifinalist, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
“I am so proud of these brilliant scholars who exemplify our tradition of excellence in academics,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Their dedication and drive to achieve at top levels nationally is a point of pride for our district and community.”

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. This includes a detailed and rigorous application outlining the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, honors and awards received, as well as an essay, additional test scores, and an endorsement from a school official.
“I am honored to recognize these academically talented students,” Advanced Academics Services Director Kathleen Plott said. “Our Klein family of educators are so proud of these equipped scholars who thoroughly commit to challenge this type of academic rigor, exceed expectations, and prepare themselves by utilizing their gifts and talents as they exit Klein ISD with a purpose and pursue their passion and high intellect in future endeavors.”
Congratulations to each of these brilliant students! Klein ISD is so proud of your excellent academic success, and we wish our finalists the best of luck as they continue to advance in the competition!
